Pursuant to the City’s Code, each City Councilmember may appoint one Commissioner to each of the City’s four Commissions (i.e., Planning and Preservation Commission; Parks, Wellness and Recreation Commission, Transportation and Public Safety Commission; and Education Commission), with the appointment approved by the full City Council.

For appointment consideration, interested residents must submit an application.  

To apply, the person must be 18 years of age and a resident of the City of San Fernando. Pursuant to Government Code section 1020, subdivision (b): “Notwithstanding any other law, a person, regardless of citizenship or immigration status, is eligible to hold an appointed civil office if the person is 18 years of age and a resident of the state.”  Interested applicants must complete an Application to Serve on a City Commission that includes a biography and be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office via email: CityClerk@sfcity.org; delivery in person or through the US postal mail service, City Hall 117 Macneil Street, San Fernando. Copies of applications are provided to the appointing Councilmember for their consideration and their final recommendation to approve the appointment is ratified by the City Council.

It is encouraged that applicants be involved or employed in the applicable Commission’s field or related subject. Commissioners receive a monthly meeting attendance stipend of $100. • Transportation and Public Safety Commission (12/23/24)

• Assists the City Council on identifying the needs of resident seniors and advocating and making recommendation on ways to meet their needs.
• Meets the fourth Thursday of each month (except November and December) at 1 pm in the Las Palmas Park Arts & Crafts Room located at 505 South Huntington Street, San Fernando.

• Assists the City Council with the oversight of the city’s urban forestry program and makes recommendations on goals and policies to protect and enhance local tree resources.

In compliance with the requirements of the Maddy Act, Government Code 54970, the following appointment list is posted on an annual basis by December 31. It shows all current members of Appointed Commissions and Committees, for which members of the public may serve, and the dates of their terms of office as of the time of posting. Commissioners must be 18 years of age or older and residents of the City of San Fernando.

* Per Resolution No. 7866 (6/18/18): Adopting the Salary Plan – Compensation per meeting attended not to exceed one meeting per month.
